Third term is by far the hardest out of all. Right? It seems everybody generally agrees with this statement. There's a bunch of reasons, but let's get into the details of why in the world everyone struggles during this time of year.
First: Weather. Think about the weather patterns during every other term. First term, it's still summer, there's tons of sports (mostly outdoors) and people can still be out and about. Second term brings a colder turn, but people get excited for the ski season, and of course, Christmas. Then comes the doldrums of third term. Christmas is over. It's still cold. The appeal to enjoy the snow (when it comes) has died down. And there's a slow change of seasons that's almost noticeable. Spring is coming, but there's always the days when it snaps back into January-ish temperatures. People are just antsy to get outside to get the lawn in shape, plant a garden, go to the park, and other greatly-missed activities. Fourth term it's officially spring, and everyone breaks out of the confines of their house to fill the waking world in many outdoor activities. It feels like freedom. And of course, summer vacation is quickly approaching, adding motivation and encouragement.
Second: School. Third term is definitely right in the deepest part of academic learning. Because you can't just jump there from the get-go, first and second terms are buildup for the real meat of the course found in third term, while fourth is the preparation for relaxation. Homework piles up with increased work from each course, and all those involved in extracurricular activities or fine arts notice the numerous festivals and competitions. Not that they aren't fun, but it's one more thing to do, one more test of the knowledge and skills you've gained throughout the year. Grade-wise, I've found it hardest to get a good grade during this term than any other term, and that's pretty consistent throughout all my schooling years. Not impossible, just harder.
Third: Emotions. If you notice, there aren't too many things to do from January to mid-March. Christmas is over. There's a few glorious days off of school, but there aren't any major holidays (besides Singles Awareness Day.) Due to the weather and the school status, emotions are somewhat low(er) during this time period. Summer is still a ways off, and it seems the only thing to look forward to is the end of the term. Everything has been the same for a really long time, since the new year at least. Where's the change? Thank goodness, right around the corner.
However, third term is done! Well, just about. So congratulations to everyone that made it through, and good luck with the rest of the year! I can't wait. And now we've got at least 10 more months until third term comes again! *Yay!*

Ah...my next third term will be...I can't even say it
Well, it'll be right where you want it to be. Congrats, and good luck!
It's so true, Bryan!! EVERYTHING happens during third term, and it's truly the most difficult part of the year. Now we can have a bright outlook towards fourth term!
So true...so true. I was in NY for the last week of third term, making it the MOST STRESSFUL end of term I could ever imagine...until after highschool of course. I love fourth term because spring finally arrives, and everybody seems to be happier in the spring. People don't seem to have time to be happy at the end of third term!
Well, it's good to be home! See you at school!
